The Trees Have No Tongues

“I am the Lorax and I speak for the trees
for the trees have no tongues”

- Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

- “Hey, where’s everybody at?!”
- “In the woods…”
- A common exchange between children pre-1980’s

“In the woods” was where I hung out when I was a kid. Back then we weren’t over-programmed with extra-curricular activities. We had time after school and all the beautiful long summer to explore and discover the secrets of the woods. And as we left childhood and entered our teens, there were new secrets to discover “in the woods.”

This work is an ode, a paen, an homage to the forest. It is a requiem.

This show is not about ArtWorld or ArtMarket.
It is an act; purely visual. A statement of concern.

I am concerned that in this world we have increasingly isolated ourselves from “nature” and “the natural.” There is a schism… a divide… a separation of man from nature that has been institutionalized by civilization and culture. This illusion of separation, of emancipation from nature, has led to a world and environment under threat from the success of species homo sapien. Our incredible success. Perhaps our ultimate failure.

I worry… especially for the children.
