Thoughts on humaNature The separation of man from nature is a cultural construct, a psychological construct, an artificial protection from the perception of our ultimate frailty. We seek a purpose. We build, we consume, we strive for progress. Progress and Purpose. We surround ourselves with a world of human creation to quell our anxiety. Paradoxically, our separation from nature is also a source of our anxiety. We are creatures...like all else on earth. We yearn for a connection. Our eyes strain for the expanse of the sky and the unbroken and seemingly infinite horizon line of the ocean. Unto dust....LPS 3/29/2007 This show will also be the occasion for the launch of the website www.fresh-i.org and the associated" Take a Walk" blog, dedicated to the practice and power of walking. The website www.fresh-i.org will be a space for the public to record words and images inspired by a mindful walking experience. Cards with the web address will be distributed at the gallery and at other locations around the city. |
