Thoughts on humaNature

The separation of man from nature is a cultural construct, a psychological construct, an artificial protection from the perception of our ultimate frailty.

We seek a purpose. We build, we consume, we strive for progress. Progress and Purpose. We surround ourselves with a world of human creation to quell our anxiety.

Paradoxically, our separation from nature is also a source of our anxiety. We are creatures...like all else on earth. We yearn for a connection. Our eyes strain for the expanse of the sky and the unbroken and seemingly infinite horizon line of the ocean.

This show will also be the occasion for the launch of the website www.fresh-i.org and the associated" Take a Walk" blog, dedicated to the practice and power of walking. The website www.fresh-i.org will be a space for the public to record words and images inspired by a mindful walking experience. Cards with the web address will be distributed at the gallery and at other locations around the city.
